What do you do at Genflow?
As the Head of Product Management, I'm responsible for making sure every Genflow app and website is of the highest quality possible, and the process of an app evolving from ideation all the way to ending up in the users’ hand is as smooth as possible. I work with designers, developers and QA’s, focussing on maintaining platforms and improving features within the app so users get the best experience possible.
What did you do before Genflow?
At the start of my career, I built, managed and improved apps and websites within the adult content sphere, specifically in subscription-services as well as traditional TV channels. During this part of my career we won “Best UK Porn Website”, two years in a row...my mum was very proud of that achievement!
I also worked on Prime Time, a pay-per-view boxing and MMA channel, where we obtained the rights for competitive sport fights in the USA, and broadcasted them in the UK, again my role here was specifically building and maintaining the website and promotional aspects. It was really cool to work on some of these fights, like the Ricky Hatton comeback!
I also managed The Daily Express, Daily Star and OK Magazine apps and websites. Working on The Daily Express was definitely one of the best projects I have built! We went from the website crashing at 8,000 users to 130K realtime users at one time! I also worked on the 2015 General Election hub.
The best career advice you have ever received?
I’ve been lucky enough to have some really outstanding managers throughout my career to learn from, it’s hard to give just one piece of advice!
I do think it is important to work for companies that have a clear direction and specific goals they want to achieve. Particularly start-ups who are very clear on who they are and what they stand for.
Advice for someone starting new in the product space?
First of all, lose the ego! It’s not about you...it’s about the users. Listen to them. They will tell you what is right and wrong with your product.
Do usability testing, it’s incredibly valuable and cost effective to do this right at the start.
Learn how to say no to stakeholders. It’s not easy, but it’s really important.
It is a jack of all trades job. You have to know a bit of everything. But, do pick a speciality and improve your skills in your own time! Further down your career, look into further qualifications you can get to enhance your learnings and skills.

Who are your favourite creators?
I am a huge YouTube junkie! One of my favourite creators has been quiet for a while but has to be The Spoony One, he needs to make a comeback. Red Letter Media is the perfect example of what a movie review channel should look like. I really like Natalie Wynn (Contrapoints) and Jordan B Peterson too!
